Sometimes the story about important developments in the Arab world are best told by reports about personal experiences. And sometimes the narrative can be more poignant when represented in a simple black and white cartoon-strip format.

Iranian Marjane Satrapi gained almost instant fame after the publication of her graphic novel Persepolis in 2003. The novel described her childhood in Iran after the Revolution when the power of the western-oriented Shah was taken over by the spiritual leader Khomeini. Persepolis became part of a sequel series: Persepolis 2, 3, and 4 followed, describing subsequently the period during the war between Iran and Iraq, her years as exile in Vienna, Austria and her return to Iran followed up by settling in France.

The film under the same title uses the content of her books. The film is made in collaboration with Vincent Paronnaud and received the Jury Prize on the Cannes Film Festival 2007.

    iran is for persians

"Iran is for Persians not Fundamentalists" - that's a quote I heard regarding those who fight the extremist ideologies that took over Iran after the revolution of Khomaini.

It's exciting to know this comic book is becoming a film, I always thought looking into Iran's different group of population; the ones that oppose oppression and what might come from the fundamentalist, is quite interesting and hopefully will prove something and eradicate the American stereotypes of that area.

    amazing story

Read the book and saw the movie, both amazing in different ways although the movie did not go into as much detail and taboo topics as the book did it was still beautifully done and had the same clear message

    Has anyone read Persepolis 2

I was thoroughly disappointed with the follow up! I am a fan of this book and movie so I was expecting to be pleasantly surprised with the second installment. I'm curious to find out what other people thought about the second book.
