can I ask why is this site in English?

It is multilingual

The texts on this site will appear in the language you type them in.

اذا آردت آن تكتب نص باللغة العربية فما عليك الا ان تسدخدم
your Arabic keyboard.

To communicate in an international language, usually people select English to be best understood by the majority of internet users. Also because they are used to doing so.

As for the main navigation of this site, it needs to be translated. I could use some tips on how to word things (need to use cool arabic text not classical stuff when possible).

why?

hi anis, just read your question: why in english? well, i can only speak for myself, but i think there may be more out there like me. i teach in the uae, and unfortunately, do not speak/read/write arabic. even though english is not my first language, by using english (which seems to be what we all currently speak) this site opens up a door of knowledge for me that i would not have otherwise. if the contents of this site were in arabic, then how would we conduct a cultural exchange? it would be confined to arabic speakers only. do you agree?

english

I agree with Maria, since it's the same here.
I'm not Arab, i don't speak or read Arabic fluently, and even if English is not my mother tongue, it's the best way to understand people from different countries.

I'm very interested in design and Arabic calligraphy, and if this site was in Arabic, i wouldn't be able to get as much information as now. So thank you for sharing your art with us!

Re: english

I agree with you, it's just where most us working in this industry, we have responsibility towards our audience and the potential young talent that needs to be tapped into specially in the Arab world where the majority of the population is young and all speak, read or write in English but Arabic, basically what I am trying to say is that the name of the website is Khtt which I think is a great initiative by the way and we need more of these kind of initiatives and specially coming from grass roots of aspiring talented young Arab designers (even though we lack design education in the Arab world).

Plus, the visual, spoken and written Arabic is already starting to get diluted as we speak, I am personally guilty having had half my education in England and I communicate in English
at work but not realizing (or actually I do, like still smoking but you know it's bad for you)
that I am contributing with clients in actually either helping kill or transform the Arab world, depends how you look at it. I have recently started a project called I seek Knowledge أطلب العلم
and part of the objectives is to dissect all forms of communication and analyzing it in order to help find a better way forward for design and communication in the Arab world, I don't know what the end result will be, but there will be a result inshallah.

by the way, i think the website could be multilingual in order to exchange more ideas from more places around the world which would further help the Arab world into developing its own thought, movements, cultures, subcultures and creativity.
