Can someone help me out please, I'm struggling here
Okay, so I'm building a dual language font in Font Studio, Roman and Arabic, living together in perfect harmony side by side in FontStudio, but when I export the font... all hell breaks loose.
Exported as Opentype TTF, and it works fine in my Middle Eastern version of InDesign, doing all those cool contextual substitutions and typing right-to-left etc etc. But. It doesn't substitute in Mellel, and my PC-based Saudi client can only see the Roman.
I'm doing something stupid, I can tell, but I don't know what it is.
Please can anyone help?
Cheers
Rob
PS Think that the project is fantastic, and the Typographic Matchmaking book has been my Arab Type 101 for getting up to speed on how to do typography in an unfamiliar character set. Thanks to you.

Hi Rob,
I am glad that the book was helpful. Please don't feel bad about the technical parts going funny, it is quite complicated. What I know is that to make Arabic fonts work on PCS you would need to do some Volt encoding. You can start by researching this on Microsoft's website (they have a section on typography that has some very informative tips and helpful information).
I suggest to write directly to the designers that worked on the Typographic Matchmaking project. Start by writing directly (through this site) to Pascal Zoghbi or Peter Bilak with specific questions.
Best of luck further and we hope to see some samples of your Arabic type design displayed on this site in the very near future.
with best regards,
Huda
