Palestine, graffiti as peaceful act of resistance
reportage from the West Bank
Just back from a trip in the West Bank, where the wall became a sad occasion of making graphics...
It's a strange feeling what i felt while crossing the west bank, the claustrophobic separation wall made me feel like into a cage, i felt stupid to be there as a tourist, while thousands of people actually live in that area, facing everyday problems that i simply touched on.
So i simply feel like showing you some of the things i saw, in that horrible separation structure.
Nothing lasts forever...

for joyful/positive/hopeful thoughts ...
I think the photos are beautiful and have such a wonderful humor to them (quite remarkable considering the situation. gives me ideas... maybe w e should ask people to contribute suggestions /proposals of how to turn that awful prison wall into a gallery for joyful/positive/hopeful thoughts ... people everywhere could use some more love and happiness don't you think?
fantastic photos
The photos are absolutely amazing. And they show that no matter how hard oppressors try, people will always find a way to resist and show their non-compliance. The defiant humour in the graffiti is wonderful. Turning the apartheid wall into a gallery is a wonderful act of appropriation...
Palestine your oceanic creativty
We can see real world of Palestine,
each images tell us more than 1000 words, minds...
Also an good news the Palestine calligraphy artist Ahmed Al Esmer win by the 1. arabic calligraphy festival and competitions in Algier/ Algeria may -june 09 1. place and award.
i can repeat the israeli editor Shulamit Aloni "this apartheid- raciscim pure - its a shame"
But we also knew "...kuli shey in fani...." one day we will see fall dawn of the wall like in Berlin...i saw it with my own eyes....
The photos give us hope
Turning this wall into a gallery is a great idea. Maybe that way the wall will bring a smile to the palestinian people and not stand there as a reminder of their imprisonment.
Thank you for the photos they're overwhelming, they tell a sad story but also manage to make us smile.

Banksy
Most of this art is actually the work of the British graffiti artist Banksy. No one has mentioned him so far, so I thought I should
US
We DONT want this to be an art gallery! we want it to be tore down. it is illegal and injust. the graffiti is their way of protesting peacefully...
hate only generates hate
We hope to generate understanding with design on this site and not equate one act of horror with another. No cause can justify injustice and the taking of innocent lives. We thank you in advance for not posting hateful comments on this site and links to offensive videos.
Art
One of the most beautiful things about art is that it can be manipulated for a cause. Remember Walt Disney's cartoons about WWII? What isn't written here are all of the offensive, hateful music videos put out by Arab artists. As a Jew, I've lived on the "other side" of the wall and can tell you that there is plenty of peace out there, but accompanied with that is plenty of war. Don't be fooled by Arab propaganda.
Oh, and if you're going to use the word "Palestinian", make sure you understand the word includes Jews who lived there before 1948. It doesn't just include Arabs.
it's such a shame
that it took thousands of deaths through suicide bombs (often aimed at the young and defenceless) for the Israelis to feel it necessary to build this wall ( this wall has stopped thousands more being murdered) and yet this wall now represents oppression? and creativity? ...ironic..if not twisted
Well, that's a lot better...
Well, that's a lot better (2) ....
... than the way they kidnap children, execute women in market places, poison water, sabotage buildings, pay murderers, burn school children, rape widows and children, steal civilian organs, use banned weapons. Gee, I guess the Israelis aren't actually the most loathsome scum on the face of the planet, they're actually cool because they build a wall.
Poor little terrorists...
...their right to murder Israelis in their beds is being violated! Call a waaaahmbulance.
the wall that stopped terrorism
This is beautiful
Here's a thought
Stop killing Jews. Realize that we are ethnically indigenous to the land, stop revising history, stop bowing to the death cult of the mullas and maybe then there would be no wall. Your hatred for us trumps your desire for peace and you feel you need to commit genocide to reach you goal of a Jew-free so-called "Palestine." Our side of the wall has been much more peaceful and we are able to get a slice of pizza without the threat of some animal strapped with a bomb and nail out looking to kill children so he can get his 72 virgins.
re: Here's a thought
well said Evan ;)
its time for the Arabs and Palestinians to join the rest of the world and get out of the dark ages, its enough now! even Arab people agree with this but their leaders hold them back and idiot supporters keep them in power!

Pictures Of The Real Gaza
here are real pictures of Gaza, not the usual propaganda pics from the media - use this link - http://israelmuse.blogspot.com/2010/06/pictures-of-real-gaza.html
Peace
I keep look for the word "peace" written anywhere on the wall and can't find it. There must be some mistake. Did the photographer censor it out? Or are the Arabs only interested in more land not peace at all?
Re: US
that's right, nadine!! to glorify the graffiti is to accept the wall. which we will NEVER do!!
KarenHilalLivingston
indeed
except in the last one, the crosshairs would be aiming for the head. amazing how apartheid, the berlin wall, even the US's civil rights movement have come and gone in the span that this atrocious state has oppressed the indigenous Palestinian population.
Israelis as Victims
For years the Israel has made itself out to be a victim but that myth was shattered once and for all by Operation Cast lead. The world now knows that the Zionist state is ruthless, racist, and wrong. Its support deteriorates with each passing day as its moral bankruptcy is revealed by leaked documents and historical research. Not surprisingly its people are emigrating in record numbers.
Through it all the Palestinians endure the daily indignities of the occupation and somehow manage to maintain their hope and resolve. They are a model for all oppressed peoples.
Terrorism vs. Self-Defense
When the Palestinians decide that they want peace more than they want to walk into an Israeli cafe and blow up women and children than this wall will come down and there will be peace. There is a fundamental moral difference between firing missiles indiscriminately at civilians and setting off suicide bombs with careful measures of self-defense in order to stop those attacks. Operation Cast Lead was just that, as it was in response to thousands of rockets fired over many years into Israeli towns and cities.
Peaceful resistance?
One has to remember, also that this passive resistance is paired with violent resistance both in acts of war against the Israeli soldiers and terrorist attacks that target civilians. I am not saying that you have to agree with me that Israel is justified in taking this action against the refugees, just that if you want the whole picture, you have to at least look at both sides of the issue.
Prison?
The wall was not made in order to keep the Palestinians trapped in the west bank; it was made because of the increasing amounts of terrorist attacks coming out of the West Bank. The wall was put up and almost immediately, the attacks went away. It is still necessary because the Palestinian Authority is still raising children to Hate Israel, no matter what. This senseless hatred is the cause of the suffering of the Palestinians since it puts Israel in the situation of having to choose between the welfare of her own people and the welfare of the palestinians. No country in the world chooses to protect others before their own people. That is an unreasonable demand to make on Israel. If the wall were removed today, there would be mass attacks on Israel, instigated by Fatah, Hamas, and the PA and the situation would be back to exchanging fire in the streets of Jerusalem. No one wants this. The only solution I see is for the PA to prove it is worthy of trust; it needs to uphold its end of bargains, stop the anti-Israel propaganda, and stop instigating violence. Once this happens, the situation can get better.
Good work
Great pictures. I've used one of them to illustrate a post in my blog (quoting and linking, of course). I hope you don't mind. If so, let me know.
You can see it here:

Thank you!
Visual is better
Visual messages are better for the Deaf, or like Deaf, who do not want to listen to the voice of change in the world of common sense. For the non-Deaf these messages are a piece of art, away from politics. It is good to have vision and hear, but when the person is blind, it can hear. Those politicians are not free!!! to hear, not free to see, not free to listen.
Jad
Great pictures!
Lol at the ziobots. They just can't seem to appreciate the underlying message that entwines these displayed works of art. Maybe they're just keeping a blind eye to the truth represented by the images?
Re: Terrorism vs. Self-Defense
is it self-defense to bulldoze 100's of families homes?
is it self-defense to plug up good water? destroy farms and any source of lively hood?
is it self-defense to make innocent people stand in lines for hours on end to get to work or home or even go to a hospital?
is it self-defense to displace families and separate them and not allow them to see each other with out /"the right permission" if at all... if you don't kiss the ass of some teenage border Gard?
get off your high horse man its not self-defense it's control and slow genocide
Re: Pictures Of The Real Gaza
um ...NO thats not gaza for your info...Jenin is closer to the west bank
Re: am i confused
SUDDENLY!!!.....try 65 years
you are all ignorant
Ill bet that none of you have ever been to israel before, this wall only surrounds a small section of the west bank (if there is such a thing), it is israels right to put up a wall to prevent illegal aliens and sometimes terrorists from traveling into their country, just like the boarder fence inbetween the united states and mexico, plus the palestinians shouldnt even be recognized as a country and i will not support anything that they do until they decide to remove the section calling for the destruction of the state of israel from their constitution. I am sixteen years old, i did my research, if you have something to say please have the facts to back it up
Look up Ireland's "Peace Walls"
...this is a lot more along those lines. "Peace walls" divide playgrounds and public spaces all over Northern Ireland to keep Irish Protestants and Catholics from turning them into violence flashpoints.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_lines
Ironically, the world, when they hear about them, regard Peace Walls with approval.
This wall's origins and intent are a lot more like them than like any "apartheid".
Be honest for once
Why doesn't Jordan reabsorb the West Bank? It's called the West Bank because it's supposed to be the Western part of Jordan. For you geographically challenged people, it sits East of Israel. Jordan (like Israel) was once part of the British Mandate, which got divided in two parts: 78% for arabs 21% for Jews. There was no hint of a West Bank or Palestine back then. The Palestinians were the Jews living in what is now Israel. It was the derogatory name the Romans gave to the land and the Jews within it. These West Bank villagers have a home and a capital city. It just happens not to be Israel or Jerusalem. Now, how about putting pressure on Jordan to reabsorb this piece of land that belongs to it? Pressuring what's left of Israel will only lead to further war and misery.
Sorry
To all the Palstinians who suffered from the Israeli terrorist sorry and we will pray for you, from America.. My government is being bought out by Israeli lobbyist and that's why the suffering conitinues.... The israeli-made holocaust will end soon..Things will be better SOON I promise..God bless the freedom for ALL
Those who support Israel are likely....
To be part of the 1%
Believe everything fox news tells them
Believe our CORRUPTED politicians.. (majority are corrupted because of Israeli lobbyist)
Love to see blood (only reason for Iraq war was to please Israel)
Unjustly change religion and history to accommodate there positions
Supporters are ok with humanity being in turmoil as long as Israel is fine
Supporters trust our bought out politicians, even though it is evident that corruption is there way of life..
Believe the killing of over a million God fearing INNOCENT people can be justified
Israel represents terror and America is starting to finally see who the real victims really are.. Sorry PALESTINE, you will be free
