History of Printing and Publishing in the Languages and Countries of the Middle East
Third International Symposium, a part of 24th Congress of the Union Européenne des Arabisants et Islamisants (UEAI).
- 25 Sep 2008 – 27 Sep 2008
Following two successful international symposia on The History of Printing and Publishing in the Languages and Countries of the Middle East, held at the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz (2002) and at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris (2005), we are now convening the third meeting on the same themes. This will take place in Leipzig, 25-27 September 2008, and it will form part of the 24th Congress of the Union Européenne des Arabisants et Islamisants (UEAI). This Symposium, however, will not be confined to printing in Arabic and Muslim languages, but will, as before, cover all Middle Eastern languages and scripts. and in the following countries: Afghanistan, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Iran, Iraq, Latin America & the Caribbean, Tatarstan, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine, as well as in the region generally.
Speakers are coming from Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Netherlands, Russia (Tatarstan), Tunisia, Turkey and USA. For a list of papers, with some abstracts, see
Symposium website contains, in addition to the information mentioned above, links to the two previous Symposia and to a range of other resources relating to printing history and typography.

This is a great series!
I only wish the catalogs were more affordable/accesible in the US. Does anyone know of a North American distributor?
History of Printing and Publishing
Papers from the first Symposium in Mainz in 2002 (see "Readings" page on this site) were published by Oxford University Press, and the volume is available in the USA at US$38.-
The catalogue volume of the exhibition held in the Gutenberg Museum in 2002
(Middle Eastern languages and the print revolution -- see also on "Readings" page) is now available at a reduced price of about US$133 through ABEbooks: see www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=middle+eastern+languages+and+the+print+revolution&x=71&y=4

Please bring to Dubai
Hi.
It'd be great if this symposium is brought to Dubai. I'd be very interested to attend.
