Ziyarat was set up in London in 2001 by {www.khtt.net/person-4217-en.html Mahita El Bacha Urieta] and Leila Mroueh as an informal platform for cultural gatherings of like minded artists, producers, journalists, curators, academics and others for the generation of collaborative projects related to the Arab world.
At the time, and in the midst of an atmosphere of political and media fuelled hostility, Ziyaratâs main concern was to reflect a fresh and thought-provoking image of the Arab world.
Initially, the purpose of Ziyarat was to increase knowledge and understanding about Arabic culture through the presentation and promotion of cultural production. Ziyarat wanted to foster dialogue and collaboration between Arabic artists, thinkers and cultural producers and their international counterparts.
Today, Ziyarat is motivated by the emergence of new energies and initiatives in the Arab world in the culture, education and media sectors.
Ziyarat is eager to contribute to the growth of new infrastructure and innovation, and to foster the development of new cultural production, art projects and trans-disciplinary initiatives while supporting up and coming artists and creators in the region.
Ziyarat curate, commission, write, produce and promote artists and cultural production.
