Hello, we’re Susana and Kai, we make books, fonts, and breakfast.
We set up Atelier Carvalho Bernau in 2005 while studying in the Type and Media design programme of the Royal Academy of Arts in Den Haag, The Netherlands. We work mainly on printed matter (mostly books) and on retail and custom typefaces, as well as on free interdisciplinary projects. Most of our clients are institutions, publishers and individuals from the cultural sector (art, architecture, design etc).
We have lectured or set workshops at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, the Écal in Lausanne, the Typographic Society in Vienna and the Grafiske Højskole in Copenhagen, among others.
