The workshop will address the role that Arabic lettering can play in bringing an Arab/Middle Eastern look and identity to product design that is made by and/or for the region. The workshop will show some key case studies of work by several designers from the Khatt Foundation network and will discuss 3D lettering and typographic systems in furniture design production in different local materials/techniques, and new visual design approaches. These will be used as sources of inspiration to discuss what ideas and strategies can be developed for UAE-based design and designers.
