The Shelter in collaboration with Jashanmal, will be hosting a week long magazine forum: Makhazin, a journey through the magazine race of diverse languages and creative disciplines.

The objective of Makhazin is to raise awareness about the international magazine industry, to capture and educate a creatively inclined audience. Magazine exhibited will cover key influential popular and independent titles of various creative disciplines: design, art, fashion, interior, architecture, music, media, and lifestyle.

The weeklong exhibition will kick off on Saturday 16th May at 19.00 with a panel discussion on the future of publishing, with panelist experts from the various segments of the publishing industry:

Narain Jashanmal (General manager of NPP & Books Division, Jashanmal)
Didier Frun (CEO of Khaleej Times)
Rashid Shahib (Founder of Brownbook magazine)
Shadi Kandil (General Manager of OMD Middle East)
Nick Mesquita (Regional Ad Sales Director of The Economist)
Sultan Al Qassemi (Non Resident Fellow - Dubai School of Government)

Makhazin is sypported by DU, Khallej Times, International Herald Tribune, Monocle, OMD Middle East and BPA Worldwide.

There will also be a screening of Helvetica, a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture, on Tuesday 19th May at 20.30 at the screening room at the Shelter.
