Arabic Calligraphy Course

A week-long course led by a professional practitioner of the art. This course introduces students to the methods and materials used in traditional Islamic calligraphy. Students will learn how to prepare their own reed pen and sized paper. They will practice writing the letters of the Arabic alphabet and explore the proportional systems that underlie these forms in various styles of script. We will consider the historical development of the art form and its various applications today. The course concludes with each participant making a final piece.

Dates: Monday 16th – Friday 20th April 2012
