Sculpting Type, An Introduction to cnc Typography explores the terra incognita outside of the conventional two dimensional comfort zone of graphic design, venturing into the exciting new territories of 3D typography. Desktop manufacturing is transforming the way we fabricate products, and 3D printing machines and cheap cnc robots are charting the way for ordinary computer-users to become product designers as well as manufacturers. Ultra customization, one-offs, and low-costs manufacturing are the future for products and architecture alike.

Sculpting Type explains the basics of the wide range of manufacturing technologies for producing 3D typography. It discusses production options, problems, and how to best deal with them. But most of all, and by showcasing new design creations for products and architectural space, the author lifts up the lid of a bottomless Pandora’s box. One that has stayed closed for too long.

To celebrate the publication of Sculpting Type, Khatt Books and the Katara Art Center, will host a book launch on the 20th of October 20213, at the Katara Art Center, Building 5, Katara Cultural Village, PO Box 23280  Doha, Qata, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
