Calligraphy for Design -

This workshop is composed of a series of lectures and hands-on tutorials that aim to develop the basic skills of calligraphy and explore the usage of calligraphy in design context and applications.

The following areas will be covered:
1- The major styles of Islamic Calligraphy
2- The anatomy of characters and letters
3- 2D Design theory and practice
4- The Golden Ratio
5- Designing modern and new styles
6- The Basics of Emblems and Logo design
7- Typographic applications of Calligraphy
8- Calligraphy as a form of Abstract Art

As an aside the participants will have an opportunity to undertake set projects at home. The hope is for each attendee to work on a portfolio of artwork to have produced by the end of the workshop.

Session 1 Saturday 22 January
Session 2 Saturday 29 January
Session 3 Saturday 5 February
Session 4 Saturday 12 February

Each session will be scheduled as follows
Part one 10.00 – 13.00
Lunch 13.00 – 14.00
Part two 14.00 – 16.00
A sandwich lunch will be provided

FEES: FULL COURSE FEES MUST BE PAID ON REGISTRATION

Tashkeel members: 1475 DHS per course
Non-members: 1640 DHS per course

MATERIALS

Basic materials and equipment required for the workshop will be provided. Any additional materials required are to be purchased; limited quantities may be available from Tashkeel. Participants are advised to bring their own aprons. Whilst every care will be taken to ensure that this workshop is conducted in a safe manner and environment, Tashkeel cannot be held responsible for any accidents and injuries that may be caused as a result of participation in this workshop.
