MIKA Typeface
Imagine tall and sturdy mountains with strong feet on the ground; It is as if the city is under their penetrating and precise gaze. This is perhaps the shortest description of the MIKA; MIKA is a real estate development company that manages from land selection to the last stage of construction. After the sale of the building, the customer is not left alone and they makes life more convenient and high-quality for residents by providing various services and amenities.
What was our brief as designers? Part of MIKA's mission is to "pay close attention to the slightest details and devote time and energy to all the dark corners..." The strict customer was unhappy with the existing fonts, these fonts were so accessible to everyone that their use no longer made a distinction; On the other hand, these fonts were not compatible with the identity and strategy of MIKA.
After the briefing sessions, our work began: checking the client's information, researching the market and competitors, studying fonts in the market, generating ideas based on the needs and personality of the brand, translating it into the design structure and finally, the design. MIKA left us open for ideation and design and accompanied us step by step during the project.
MIKA typeface is structured and has clear principles and rules in design; But these principles do not prevent the dynamism and agility of letters. In this typeface, positive and negative spaces have independent but harmonious personality, like Architecture. The thickness contrast is moderate and there is no sudden change of thickness. Modest and balanced letters do not scream to be seen.
We designed Light to Bold weights for use in long texts in small size, in these weights the readability of the font was crucial, because all MIKA's documents are supposed to be written with this font. The limitations were less in the Black weight, this weight is for short writing and use in large sizes. So we focused more on reflecting the brand's personality and creating differentiation. In Black weight, the characters are bold and serious, the straight lines of the letters dominate the curves, the forms are more geometric and the corners are sharper.
In order to increase the distinction and functionality of the font, and with an eye on the city, we designed the Black letters to be flexible and dynamic. Like buildings that come in different sizes and heights, the condensed and stretched styles change shape based on the situation and purpose and provide a creative and efficient solution.
The design of MIKA started with Persian characters, after the delivery of the work and the customer's satisfaction, we were entrusted with the design of the English characters of the font.
MIKA typeface with 5 weights and 3 styles, in Persian and English, was designed in September 2024. This typeface was designed by Reza Bakhtiarifard and Omid Emamian, and Hossein Raouf was with us during the research phase.
