Dabestan Typeface
Dabestan* is designed for students from 7 to 12 whose minds are blank from any writing experience. Since teachers have an important role in educating system, this typeface should be easy for teachers to teach, and for students to learn and read.
Besides increasing learning speed and quality, this typeface is a good template to copy, therefore, with the teacher’s support, it will lead to good handwriting people. The typeface family is functional, not only in letters, but also in numbers, punctuations, and diacritics and is suitable for all textbooks in elementary school, including Alphabet Learning, Math, and Quran.
We did some researches about educating systems inside and outside of the country. We studied useful fonts in Farsi and English alphabet learning systems and had meetings with professional typeface designers. Therefore, the outcome was a typeface that is perfectly legible, copyable, simple, functional, kind, and friendly.

Formic features:
• Following handwriting movements and pencil forms, and low contrast in strokes thickness.
• Fast and accurate recognition of pencil’s moves, baseline, and the joints.
• Unity in letter’s harmony and joints.
• Wide grooves, fewer joints, smooth cuts, and no sharp angles.
Dabestan typeface has two styles, including beginner and advanced. The structures in both styles are similar, and the forms are more completed in advanced style. Beginner style is for first and second grades, and advanced style is suitable for second to sixth grades. Each style includes three weights: regular, semi-bold, and bold. Not to mention this font supports Farsi, Arabic, Urdu, Kurdish, and Jawi languages.
Dabestan typeface has been co-designed by Reza Bakhtiarifard and Omid Emamian for MaryamSoft. This project has been started in 2016 and completed in 2018.
