Comb-text-Carolin-Mins-Naskh

From top to bottom: the Textura Quadrata, the Carolingian Minuscule and a Naskh script. The two on top stood model for the lowercase letters in Latin type. The Naskh style is much used but in Arabic type there is not one or a few manuscript models made that were as much determining the style of Arabic type as it was the case for Latin type. As ancestors of the Naskh style some famous calligraphers (like Ibn al-Bawwab) are sometimes mentioned. The Latin type ancestors needed much less space for ascenders and descenders than the Arabic type ancestor.
